A compact watercolour set with twelve colours inspired by the colour palette of Vincent van Gogh 's Portrait of Camille Roulin . Camille was the youngest son of the postal clerk Joseph Roulin, with whom Van Gogh had befriended in Arles (France). Van Gogh wanted to make 'modern portraits' that would do justice to the character of his model. 'I'm trying it with colour,' he wrote to his sister Willemien. The blue of the beret, the green and red of the jacket and the yellow of the background: all these colours can be found in Camille's face.
