The kangaroo is a native marsupial that lives in Australia and the Indonesian island of New Guinea. Although kangaroos often congregate in groups, kangaroos are generally quite solitary mammals. In the company of other kangaroos, they are social animals. Kangaroos have a deep pouch on their front in which they can carry their young. A baby kangaroo is called a joey. Kangaroos eat plants, nuts, berries and insects, which the kangaroos browse for in the arid wilderness.
