Chimpanzees are our closest living relatives and share more than 98 percent of our genetic blueprint. Humans and chimpanzees are also thought to share a common ancestor that lived about four to eight million years ago.
Although they normally walk on all fours (knuckle walking), chimpanzees can stand upright and walk. By swinging from branch to branch, they can also move quite efficiently in the trees, where they eat most of their food. Chimpanzees also usually sleep in trees and use nests made of leaves.
