Roan is a big, tough, friendly Frisian. He is perfectly happy at his
stable in Friesland, with his owner Dieuwertje. Together they go on wonderful
outdoor rides and they are reasonably successful at dressage competitions. But
one day when Dieuwertje comes to the stable crying, Roan's world collapses.
Dieuwertje's mother has lost her job and they can no longer
pay Roan. To his great sorrow, he has to be sold.
His new owner is very different from Dieuwertje. Roan has to work very hard
in a team of two, together with Tjeerd. The two horses become
great friends, but also have a hard time and get little food.
In addition, Tjeerd is terrified of water. Roan does what he can to help his
new friend overcome his fear. It seems to work, until they
take part in a big competition. Something happens there that will turn Roan's world
upside down once again...
